Jesus- The Story of Walking on Water
The Story of Walking on Water
After the miracle of feeding the 5,000, Jesus felt the need to withdraw from the crowd. He compelled his disciples to get into a boat and go ahead of him to the other side of the lake, while he went up on a mountainside to pray alone.
A Stormy Night
During the night, the disciples were in the boat, but a fierce storm arose, and they began to struggle against the waves. They felt they were in great danger. In the middle of the night, Jesus approached the disciples, walking on the water.
The Disciples’ Fear
When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water, they were terrified and thought he was a ghost. They cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them, “Take courage! It is I; don’t be afraid.”
Peter Steps Out
Peter, one of the disciples, replied, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus said, “Come!” So Peter got down out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. However, when he saw the wind and the waves, he became afraid and began to sink, crying out, “Lord, save me!”
Jesus’ Rescue
Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him, saying, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. The disciples were amazed and worshiped him, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”
The Significance of the Story
This story emphasizes Jesus’s power over nature and the importance of faith. It teaches us that, no matter how difficult our challenges may seem, faith in Jesus can help us overcome fear and uncertainty.
